Organizations to Tap Into

Your health care organization can tap into a number of government, nonprofit, and professional organizations for information and assistance.

The International Institute of Minnesota, a social service agency that serves the foreign- and native born, maintains the Minnesota Ethnic Resource Directory—a searchable database of nearly 800 nonprofit cultural, social, and human service, educational, artistic, religious, community and government organizations engaged in ethnic/nationality services and activities in Minnesota. Organizations may wish to search the directory to identify:

  • Community based organizations with which to build collaborative partnerships
  • Organizations offering education and job skill training services as a potential source of candidates in support of a diverse workforce
  • Ethnic media outlets with whom they may wish to advertise organization service offerings, health-related events or employment opportunities.

Minnesota Organizations. This page offers a list of Minnesota organizations offer information to help health care facilities develop and refine their cultural competence programs.

  • Cultural competence. These Minnesota organizations and government agencies offer additional information and services on cultural competence and related topics.
  • Multicultural needs. Links to organizations engaged in local and national initiatives that offer information and services in support of topics related to cultural competence (health literacy, refugee health, translated patient materials).

Professional Medical Organizations for Diverse Populations. These professional medical organizations offer continuing education, job advancement information, professional development and networking opportunities, policy and research information for individuals from diverse populations that are in medical professions. Health care organizations may consider visiting these sites to learn more about current issues and advancements, post job opportunities, and encourage staff to become members.
